outings this week...

Wow it's been ages since I last posted.... my mum's been visiting us in London all the way from Sydney, so we've been busy with lovely outings, plays and musicals. On Thursday night we saw the Lion King which was great for all the family. And on Friday we saw Peter and Alice with Judi Dench! Amazing to see her live on stage! The play was absolutely brilliant overall. On Saturday Mum and I went to Fenton House in Hampstead - a lovely National Trust property - because she was interested in the harpsichord and old keyboard collection there. The house and gardens were stunning as well!

8 Favorite British Rooms

Hello, all! I'm so excited to be visiting with you here at The Homely Place with a guest post. I'm from Arcadian Home blog, where you will find lots of interior design inspiration including fabulous home dÈcor ideas from oval wall mirrors to magnificent chandeliers.

I know Natalie is from Australia, but living in London now. I love the interior styles of both countries, the amazing colorful rooms from Aussie designers and the lovely mix of traditional and contemporary seen in the work of interior designers in Great Britain. Today we're going to take a little virtual tour of eight of my favorite British rooms. Please enjoy!

Thanks for letting me stop by to visit with you at The Homely Place.

British Design

The first room on our tour shows off that appealing mix of traditional seen in the fireplace and mirror above and the contemporary look of the shelves built into the grey wall. Most of all I love the bright pink Egg chair that adds a bit of Mid-Century style.

This dining room with its fabulous architectural details and amazing color palette mixes contemporary and traditional furnishings and lighting.

Don't you want to pull back each of those fabulous layers to see the lovely colors and intricate stitching of the quilts? The room itself is beautiful and the colors are gorgeous.

So different from the color-filled room above, and yet this bedroom is just as eye-catching in its own way, in the simplicity of its design. I'm captivated by the curved shape of the modern pendant lights, so intriguing.

Once again, contemporary and traditional merge into brilliant interior design in this lovely neutral dining space. It's a beautiful room that also looks comfortable and inviting, perfect for entertaining.

A chic white contemporary bedroom gets an over-the-top glam look with a massive black and crystal chandelier. The small framed black and white photograph is just right in contrast to the magnificent lighting fixture.

From the wonderful color on the walls, ceiling and fireplace to the pristine white clawfoot tub and fanciful chandelier at the center of the space, this room design is altogether quite amazing.

At first we notice the modern pendant lighting, then the lovely wood surfaces and timbers come into focus. This wonderful kitchen is at once rustic and sleek, chef-worthy and beautiful. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Emerald green rooms

Not surprisingly, emerald green is Pantone Colour of the Year for 2013. I'm contemplating painting my room in this colour, but it might be a little intense. I've always been a fan of greens, including this garish shade. It doesn't have to be garish though, if used correctly. Perhaps I'll stick to using it in our cloakroom instead.
