cushions, kilim and furniture

I haven't had time to photograph any of my lovely new items properly but here are a few quick snaps of the kilim and cushions from Istanbul along with one of the Indian Sheesham wood sideboards. I haven't unpacked the dining table or chairs yet as the old table is still here, waiting for our office move to pack it away. How things drag on....

morning sunlight

isn't the morning sunlight gorgeous coming in through the blinds of my daughter's room? This photo was so spontaneous that I didn't have time to tidy the room before taking the shot.

Art in Action 2010 part 3

Ferry
This is the final part of the Art in Action experience. Artist Jenny Wheatley must live somewhere very picturesque and lovely. Her paintings are mostly interiors with a view or landscapes, or houses. Here I have posted some of her oil paintings but she also paints in acrylics and on paper. I had to restrain myself from posting here ALL the paintings on her website, they are just so gorgeous.

Art in Action 2010 part 2

Chic and Cheerful - Gardens Illustrated Magazine
Ok so here's Hannah McVicar.
She studied illustration at Falmouth College of Art and has worked for Abercrombie and Fitch in the US for two years! She has an amazing eye for detail, illustrating mostly floral subjects influenced by her childhood spent amongst plants at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Art in Action 2010

Artists at work
This was my second time visiting Art in Action. My first visit was blogged about here. I think the first time I was completely blown away by the talent and array of artists, but returning for a second visit was a bit of an anti-climax. Many of the same artists were there which is to be expected, but it kind of took away the surprise factor (don't know what else I was expecting!). On the other hand, I was completely smitten by 3 artists who I hadn't seen before, whose work was just amazing. They are all female and of course the work is bright, colourful and fresh. They are Carry Akroyd, Jenny Wheatley and Hannah McVicar. All totally different styles, subjects and techniques - and all fantastic!
(I think I may have to post on Jenny Wheatley and Hannah McVicar in a separate post tomorrow)
First up: Carry Akroyd
Carry Akroyd paints in oils, acrylics and watercolour as well as being a printmaker. She has collaborated with poet John Clare to produce a beautiful book of poems and paintings influenced by the stunning British landscape, Landscape Change, John Clare and Me.

Sunday, July 18

Yesterday we had a great day out at Art in Action in Oxfordshire - a wonderful art event where artists of all kinds and musicians come to openly demonstrate their skills and display their work. But more on that later once I get my photos sorted...
I've discovered some gorgeous massively unaffordable homes in massively unaffordable suburbs of London, one of which is this one. Not my usual taste, but attractive nevertheless, albeit with a not-so-attractive asking price!
